About Millichamp and Hall

Millichamp & Hall was founded in 1987 by Julian Millichamp and Jonathan Hall. For over 35 years we've been crafting high performance cricket bats for players of all ages and abilities. Robert Chambers, our Master Pod Shaver, has been producing cricket bats with Millichamp and Hall for 20 years and holds true to the M&H ethos of using only the finest English willow. Whilst Julian Millichamp and Jonathan Hall are no longer part of the team, our mission remains consistent with the goal of the founders; to get the very best performance out of each cleft of finest English Willow.

M&H HISTORY

In October 1987, Julian Millichamp and Jonathan Hall sent 100 clefts of pressed willow with handles fitted to Perth, Australia. It was there, in a sporting goods repair shop, that the fledgling bat makers set to work shaping the pressed and fitted clefts into cricket bats. Using Julian's personal collection of antique tools, including drawknives, spoke-shaves and even a horses shin bone, the first ever M&H bats were created. These pioneering bats were sold directly to cricketers through Slater Gartrells Sports shop in Midland, Perth. Millichamp and Hall was born.

The partners returned to the UK to prepare for the English summer and continued in the same modest fashion; crafting cricket bats on a workbench in a backroom of Jonathan Hall's Somerset based home. The Ashes tour of 1989 marked a significant achievement for the company; the high quality of Millichamp and Hall bats had grown in renown and by the end of the Ashes tour 11 of the 16 Australian tourists were using Millichamp and Hall bats, albeit disguised by the labels of their better known sponsors. By 1990 an impressive 27 of the top 40 Deloittes rated batsmen were using Millichamp and Hall cricket bats. Remarkably, even in the early days of establishing the brand, Millichamp and Hall never felt the need to give away a single bat. Test players of worldwide reputation, most of whom hadn't paid for a bat since the junior leagues, found themselves digging into their pockets to invest in the careers by owning the best product on the market. This enviable international reputation still remains today, with Millichamp and Hall regarded as a world class bat manufacturer and elite cricketing brand.
