Abell looking forward to things heating up down under

Abell looking forward to things heating up down under

Tom Abell is coming off an impressive summer with Somerset County Cricket Club and Birmingham Phoenix. After coming back from a hamstring injury in August which sidelined him for six weeks, Abell showed us that the break clearly didn’t affect his touch with the white ball.

After a brief appearance for the Phoenix, Abell came home to Taunton for a Vitality Blast quarter final clash against Lancashire Lightning with Somerset winning by seven wickets. Abell was the star of the run chase with an impressive 78 not out. Once again, his form showed in the semi finals scoring another half century to set up one of the most memorable run chases in recent Blast history.

The form Abell has displayed with the bat in his recent white ball career has led to the calling of Darren Lehmann and the Brisbane Heat for Tom’s services. “It’s going to be a busy winter with the England Lions and Brisbane Heat for the Bash season,” says Tom. “To have both these opportunities down in Australia this Winter is fantastic, I feel very fortunate to have them and I am certainly looking to perform well and make the most of them.”

“It would be nice to have an impact on the Heat team, like my Somerset teammates Tom Banton and Lewis Gregory did. I’ve just finished my three day quarantine here on the Gold Coast and looking forward to getting out and training over the next few weeks. I certainly need to acclimatise a bit!” The M&H family will be watching with great interest as Abell hopes to start for the Lions on December the 9th as they take on Australia A. Gloucestershire and M&H family member James Bracey will also be hoping to play alongside the Somerset captain.

Tom Abell has been a delight to watch over his career and his recent development has only solidified himself as a fan favourite, from his traditional style of play to his audacious shot selections. Whether Tom is reverse sweeping a ball to the boundary, or guiding one over the ropes at deep cover, the Brisbane Heat fans can look forward to some exciting cricket as they look to go and make a run at #BBL11.
