In the dynamic world of longer format cricket, two of our sponsored players have shone extremely brightly for Somerset this season. Andy Umeed and James Rew have been in excellent touch with their Original bats this season, with Andy currently topping the leaderboard for most runs in the Metro Bank 50 over competition and James in the County Championship so far.
With the depth and quality of the Somerset side this season, Andy had a frustrating start to the year with his first team opportunities being limited. However, being brought in to open the batting in the 50 Over One-Day cup, he has absolutely seized his chances to show his prowess. Scoring three centuries and two 50s, including a massive 172* from 147 balls against Derbyshire.
James Rew has been at the forefront of every cricket fan's mind this season, becoming the youngest player to score a double century for Somerset and the first player in the County Championship to score 1,000 runs this season. James will be hoping to continue his form in the remaining County Championship games. We can’t wait to see him in action again!
