A season to remember

As the 2023 cricket season comes to a close, it’s time for our yearly round up. Millichamp and Hall HQ and workshop has been located at the Somerset County Ground for over 30 years now, every year we’re lucky enough to welcome all of you that make the trip. This year has definitely been one of the Best! It’s been our absolute privilege meet you all and help you select the finest cricket equipment in the world.

The 2023 season brought an exciting and fully packed schedule for all of our professional players, we’ve been extremely proud watching them don their M&H kit across all formats. There has been far too many stand out performances to name, but we’re going to do our best!

Firstly, congratulations need to go to Middlesex’s Ryan Higgins, who was in fantastic form with the bat and the ball throughout all formats. The all rounder has really highlighted his importance to the Middlesex squad, scoring an incredible 1465 runs alongside taking 53 wickets. Having led the points table for the PCA MVP through the majority of the season, it’s no surprise that he was shortlisted for the PCA Player of the Year, unfortunately Ryan was pipped to the award by England’s Harry Brook.

Playing at opposite sides of the country this year, both Craig and Jamie Overton stood tall in their Somerset and Surrey Squads. Craig shone in the T20 blast, earning himself a call up to the England Squad. Jamie had an equally impressive year, with The Hundred being his standout format and his batting taking centre stage. Jamie scored 202 runs in 9 innings, with an average of 40. Jamie is heading off to play in Australia’s Big Bash Tournament.

We’ve seen some outstanding breakthroughs from some of the younger member of the M&H Family, Shoaib Bashir and Ned Leonard have set a great footing for themselves in the Somerset Squad. Dom Kelly and Hamza Sheikh have shone brightly for their counties as well as the England U19s squad, scoring runs and taking wickets for fun in their most recent series against Australia. One of our newest players, John Turner has seen the most rapid rise this year. Playing his first games in the T20 Blast for Hampshire, he made big enough impressions to earn himself a wildcard pick into The Hundred. Continuing to create impact, he was drafted into the England Squad. These guys are all certainly ones to watch for the future!

The Women’s Ashes was one of the most anticipated series of the year, and it didn’t disappoint!. Lauren Bell and Charlie Deane pulled on their England shirts and we couldn’t be prouder of them! Lauren also went on to be a part of Southern Braves Hundred winning campaign and featured in the first WIPL competition.

In Somerset we’ve been lucky enough to witness some unbelievable cricket throughout the year. We’ve seen all of Andy Umeed’s devasting blows in the Metro Bank 50 Over Competition. Andy took full advantage of the opportunity to opening the batting, ending as the second highest run scorer of the competition with an average of 66.

Now we come to one of the most talked about individual in cricket this year, the name on every cricket fans lips, James Rew. What more is there to say about this man! The youngest player ever to reach 1000 runs for Somerset, and now the PCA Young Player of the Year. James is one of the brightest talents in cricket and we can’t wait to have a front row seat to watch the dizzying heights his career will undoubtedly go to!

As for us here at Millichamp and Hall HQ, we’ve been busier than ever and we have you all to thank for that! We look forward to an exciting finish in the world cup and we’re still full flow here should you need anything!
